FTP Client Window

Introduction

PowerArchiver Secure FTP is an FTP client window inside of main PowerArchiver interface that lets you connect to FTP servers that support FTP/SFTP/FTP+ SSL and FTP +SSL/TSL protocols. Although it is envisioned as client that will help you to download your backups easily, it can do most tasks required from general purpose FTP client. It supports resuming uploads and downloads, has smart queue, FTP profiles that are supported throughout PowerArchiver, logging support and much more.

How to turn it on?

Classic interface: You can turn it on by going to Archive> FTP button at the top right of PowerArchiver interface. Modern interface: You can turn it on by clicking on FTP tab.

FTP Window Options

As our Secure FTP client is fully featured tool, there are many options there.

Main Toolbar

  • "Profiles" - in Profiles dropdown you can select, add new or edit current profile. Same profiles are used in rest of PowerArchiver. Select existing server for its info to populate ftp login fields. Click here for more info on FTP Profiles.
  • "Protocol" - Select between FTP, SFTP (Secure FTP), FTP with SSL and FTP with SSL/TLS.
  • "Profiles (Server)" - Enter ftp server name or select recently used ones from drop down.
  • "Username" - enter your username for that server.
  • "Password" - enter your password for that server.
  • "Port" - enter FTP server port. Default is 21 for FTP, however some servers might use different ports.
  • "Passive mode" - sets passive transfer mode. This will help you connect to the server if you are behind a firewall or router. Unless you are plugged in directly to the cable modem, you are most likely behind firewall and need to be using this option.
  • "Connect" - connects to the server.
  • "Disconnect" - disconnects current ftp session.
  • "Refresh" - refreshes currently shown folder listing.
  • "Stop" - stops current task.
  • "Download" - downloads selected files/folders to the folder opened in Explorer View. You can also drag and drop files as well as right click on the file and download to one of the saved most recently used folders (MRU).
  • "Upload" - Uploads selected files in explorer view to the current folder on ftp server.
  • "Delete" - deletes selected files/folders on ftp server.
  • "Rename" - renames selected files and folders on ftp server.
  • "Permissions" - change permissions for the file on the ftp server.
  • "ASCII transfer mode" - transfer mode for ascii (text) files.
  • "Binary transfer mode" - transfer mode for binary files.
  • "Auto Transfer mode" - PowerArchiver automatically selects transfer mode for files.
  • "Log" - shows ftp log window at the bottom of ftp window.

FTP Server File/Folder display

  • "Folder" - shows your current folder at FTP server. You can type another folder and click on the Go button to directly access it.
  • "Go Up Folder" - goes one folder level up in FTP server.
  • "New Folder" - creates new folder on FTP server.
  • "Download" - downloads selected files/folders to the folder opened in Explorer View. You can also drag and drop files as well as right click on the file and download to one of the saved most recently used folders (MRU).
  • "Select View Style" - select what kind of view style you want for files/folders on ftp server.

Queue / Log window

Window that shows Queue and Log options. You need to click on Queue/Log button on the main toolbar in order to access it.

  • "Run" - Runs selected queued jobs.
  • "Pause" - Pauses queued jobs.
  • "Move Up/ Move Down" - Moves selected queued jobs.
  • "Number of transfers" - Set number of concurrent transfers. Please note that if you lower the number, change will take place only after current transfers have been completed.
  • "Global transfer limit" - Set maximum transfer speed emit for all concurrent transfers. Setting it to 0 means Unlimited speed.
  • "Queue Folders"
  • "All files from folder as one item" - Treats all files and folders under the selected folder as single item. Keeps Queue list clean and allows for faster speeds.
  • "Each file from folder separately" - Each file from selected folder is added to the Queue list separately. Allows you to easily modify download queue later on.
  • "When finished"
  • "Stay idle" - FTP client will not do anything when your queued jobs have been completed.
  • "Disconnect" - FTP client will disconnect from the FTP server once queued jobs have been completed.
  • "Shutdown" - FTP client will shut down your computer after queued jobs have been completed.
  • Tabs
  • "Queue" - shows list of queued files.
  • "Finished" - shows list of completed tasks.
  • "Failed" - shows list of failed tasks. You can reschedule tasks by right clicking on items and selecting appropriate option.
  • "Log" - shows FTP logs.

Tips and Tricks

  • Enter your FTP Profiles first! - Please make sure that you enter your common FTP servers to the FTP profiles list, so you do not have to enter them every time you start PowerArchiver. You can do so by using Profiles button in FTP Window, or by going to Configuration> FTP Profiles. You can use those profiles then in backup, FTP Window, shell extensions or main PowerArchiver application when using "Send to" features. Click here on more info about FTP Profiles.
  • Use right click download MRU! - if you right click on files/folders you are trying to download, you will get an option to download to one of recently used folders, thus saving you time and effort.
